Chiiori House

Snapshots from a couple of days spent at Chiiori House, author Alex Kerr's secluded farmhouse in the mountains of Tokushima prefecture in the island of Shikoku. Enveloped by clouds, the house is made in the traditional old Iya construction with a thatched roof, floor hearth, and massive wooden beams smoked black from centuries of warming up around a fire.  

It was a weekend of home-cooked meals, long baths and being immersed in nature, detaching from the news about the current state of global affairs. It was also time for getting caught up on some reading, particularly Alex's own Lost in Japan, which details his tale of acquiring this two hundred year old house, a precious little portal to a long forgotten time.

四国の徳島県の山中にある作家アレックス・カーの人里離れた農家、篪庵の家で過ごした数日間のスナップショット。 雲に包まれたこの家は、茅葺き屋根、温かい床、そして何世紀にもわたって周りを温めてきたことにより黒く焦げた、大きな囲炉裏を備えた伝統的な昔からの建築技法で作られています。

家庭料理、長いお風呂、そして自然に囲まれ、世界情勢の現状についてのニュースから離れた週末でした。 また、いくつかの読書、特にアレックス著書の「Lost in Japan」に入り込む時間でもありました。この200年前の家は、長い間忘れられていた大切な時間への小さな入り口です。
