Ceramicist Tomoya Sakai is known for his sculptural, graphic shapes and glazes that contain saturated tones. "Ever since I first spun a pottery wheel, I have been fascinated by the feeling of tension, the centrifugal force, and the touch of clay changing its shape in the hand. The shapes of clay made from the spinning of the pottery wheel are associated with natural objects, architectural structures, the scenes of animations and movies. I get inspired by such images," he says.
For DAMDAM, he creates incense holders that borrow its shape from a gourd while the color blocking is reminiscent of DAMDAM's dual-toned packaging.
Best paired with DAMDAM's own incense sticks.
