We collaborated with social organization Teras to create the Sashiko Pouch, designed to house our skincare products. Teras is a Tochigi-based company that provides livelihood for people living with mental health issues and disabilities. Teras provides employment and community to create a lasting support system.
Sashiko, the Japanese art of mending, was born out of necessity to mend garments in the Edo period. The meticulous stitching is meant to highlight, not hide, the imperfections and repairs of the fabric. It is seen as part of the history of an object, something to celebrate and not disguise. For the Sashiko Pouch, we use deadstock fabric carefully handstitched into a patchwork, with a delicate pull-tab on the side embroidered with the label DAMDAM.
