What it is

This fan is a Kyo-sensu, the technique of which dates back more than 1,200 years.

This fan is a Kyo-sensu, the technique of which dates back more than 1,200 years. In collaboration with an 18th-century maker from Kyoto, each Sensu took over 80 steps to complete by highly skilled artisans. The finely slatted wooden ribs are made of bamboo, specially dyed to mimic DAMDAM's signature matcha color, and stamped with our logo.

Three layers of extremely fine Washi paper are used for the bodice and cut to shape the fan. Like the ribs, the Washi is in a matcha color to create a uniquely monochromatic Sensu.

The Sensu comes with its own linen case, color-matched to the fan, and wrapped in a hinoki box (not pictured) for your safekeeping.
