What it is

A ceremonial ritual practiced since 6th century Japan, handcrafted for your at-home self-care ritual.

Since 6th century Japan, the ancient ritual of burning incense has been used in ceremony, spirituality, and meditation. This simple practice helps to purify our spaces and reconnect us to our inner-most selves.



DAMDAM incense sticks are crafted thicker in diameter for a steady, even burn and lovingly housed inside a paper-fine wooden box for slow enjoyment.



Made by local artisans with over two hundred years of experience crafting incense, each stick starts from the dried and powdered bark of the Japanese bay tree Machilus thunbergii. Fragrant herbal medicines and essences are added, creating a thick paste later pressed into individual sticks.



Sandalwood (36 pc): For calming the mind. A deep, woody, complex blend of floral and balsamic notes. Light this incense to let anxiety melt away. Pairs gorgeously with baths, afternoon tea, a book in bed, or simply to reach for mental clarity and peace at the end of a busy day.



Conifer (39 pc): For grounding the senses. Equal parts smoky and citrus, conifer smells of the natural world — of leaves, wood, and stone. Light for yoga, meditation, or in moments of solitude.



Cinnamon (39 pc): For energy. Sweet spicy cinnamon invites creative vibrations, enhances focus and concentration, and breathes fresh chi into your space. Light during the change of seasons, new projects, or times of self-protection.



Meli Melo (39 pc): For change. The French word for mix, méli-mélo includes our signature sandalwood, conifer, and cinnamon scents in one box. Listen to your mood and choose accordingly.



Osmanthus (39 pc): For finding your calm. Of the jasmine and lilac family, osmanthus is a peachy floral scent with subtle smoky undertones. Used for centuries in folk medicine, osmanthus is clinically proven to reduce feelings of stress when inhaled. Use to center yourself in times of stress.
